![]() The layers of the earth's crust can be seen floating on the mantle and core beneath. |
One of a series of computer generated video installations for the Earth Sciences Galleries at the Royal Ontario Museum, this documents the various types of volcanic activity. All views are toward the centre of the earth (i.e. from above) so that the film can be viewed from any angle while projected on the floor of the circular theatre. The images are a mix of animation and live action, as viewers are guided on the journey through volcanos, the layers of the earth, and the depths of the ocean by the narrator, a young girl. Time and distance are contracted and expanded throughout the piece. Other exhibits in the series included a micro/macroscopic view of mineral formation, and a motion controlled robotic projector to display the earth's surface phenomena on all surfaces of a circular theatre.
